Privacy policy

Audition Prep (Audition Prep by Pultfrei) is a local-first app for classical musicians preparing auditions. It helps you organize auditions, orchestral excerpts, sheet music, references, rounds and practice sessions on your own device.

Summary

Audition Prep stores your content locally on your device. There are no user accounts, no tracking, no ads, no external analytics and no server-side storage by us.

We cannot see your auditions, excerpt lists, sheet music, recordings, references or ratings.

The only network connection the app makes on its own: the spoken guidance in the Performance module downloads audio files from pultfrei.com (see below).

What you can store in the app

The app only processes data that you enter or add locally yourself:

• Auditions, orchestras, instruments and dates.
• Orchestral excerpts, set pieces, status ratings, rounds and practice plans.
• Notes, journal entries and session ratings.
• Local sheet-music files such as PDFs, photos or images.
• Audio recordings, when you start a recording yourself.
• Reference links to YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music or other websites.

This content stays in the app's local storage on your device.

Microphone, camera and photos

Audition Prep only asks for permissions when you use a matching feature:

• The microphone is used for recordings, the tuner and practice tools.
• The camera is used when you photograph sheet music directly.
• The photo library is used when you pick sheet-music images.

Audio, photos and sheet music are not sent to us.

External reference links

You can save reference sources such as YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music or web links per excerpt. When you open an external link, you leave the local-first part of Audition Prep, and the privacy terms of that service apply.

YouTube can be opened inside the app via the official YouTube embed/WebView player. Spotify, Apple Music and regular web links open externally. Audition Prep does not download audio files from these services and does not extract audio from them.

Spoken guidance in the Performance module

From version 1.5.0, the exercises in the Performance module can play spoken guidance if you choose to. The audio files are not part of the app download; they are hosted on pultfrei.com. When you open an exercise, the app fetches the list of available recordings from there once. If you choose “Start with voice”, it downloads the recordings for that exercise and stores them on your device; they are not downloaded again afterwards. If you choose text guidance, no recordings are downloaded.

No content from the app is transmitted, only the technically necessary connection data: IP address, time, requested file and the app's technical identifier (user agent). Our hosting provider Vercel (USA) processes this data as a processor under Art. 28 GDPR in server logs to deliver the files and to keep the service secure. We do not analyze it or link it to you. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in delivering the requested files (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Transfers to the USA are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 GDPR).

Storage and backup

Your data is stored in the app's local storage on your device. Depending on your iOS settings, local app data may be included in Apple's iCloud device backup. That backup is provided by Apple and is outside our control.

The app also offers a manual metadata export. It contains auditions, excerpts, rounds, status, references, sessions and journal entries. Local sheet music, PDFs, images and audio recordings are not embedded in this export. They stay in the app container and need to be backed up via your device backup.

No analytics, no tracking, no ads

Audition Prep currently uses no external analytics services, no ad networks and no tracking. The app does not create user profiles and does not send usage data to us.

No accounts and no server-side storage

The app currently has no user accounts and no cloud sync. So there is no server database in which your content is stored by us.

Deleting your data

You can delete content in the app. When you remove the app from your device, the locally stored app data is removed from the device. Existing iCloud device backups are managed through your iCloud settings.

Children

Audition Prep is not specifically aimed at children. The app does not collect personal data from children.

Changes

If the privacy model changes significantly, for example through optional cloud sync, user accounts, external analytics or payment services, this privacy policy will be updated.
